Housing Needs: Terrestrial setup. Spiderlings will burrow.
Temperament: They are tolerant and rarely give a threat posture. That being said, they have the most irritating type of urticating hairs, and will not hesitate to kick them when disturbed. 

About: This gorgeous giant is one of the most popular species. Being the 4th largest spider in the world makes this quite a conversation piece, as well as an excellent display spider. An adult male can reach over 11”. They are quite bulky, with a velvet black abdomen adorned with long salmon bristles all over. Many people who own these report that when they approach the enclosure, their parahybana tries to climb out. They are more tolerant than most species. These tarantulas are voracious eaters with appetites that match their size! Once on the ground it can be difficult to coax them to move. They are bold and do not spook easily, so they are out in the open most all of the time, making them a great display animal. They will do some landscaping if given the depth, we recommend having at least 5" of substrate for them to dig around in, as well as some kind of hide.
